If Yosemite 10.10.5 is the most recent that can be installed on this. I have an apple id, not associated with this machine. I want erase all existing data and accounts on the machine.

At this point, we thought maybe there's a bad DIMM. However, reinstalling OS X isn’t a universal balm that fixes all hardware and software errors. When that went to the black screen w/ white logo and progress bar, it got to "About a minute left." and then rebooted to a black screen with text saying, "Your Mac rebooted because of a problem."
